Searching for recipes
Your enormous recipe collection in the sky is not much good if you can't find the recipe you're looking for or occasionally stumble upon a forgotten favorite. The Recipe Tamer search view makes it easy to search and filter your recipes.
When you start typing in the search box, Recipe Tamer will suggest recipes whose names match the word you've typed. If you see the recipe you want, just click its name to go right to that recipe. Otherwise, press Enter (or the Search button) to search for recipes that contain those words.
When you search, Recipe Tamer looks at all parts of the recipe (except attachments).
- You can search for ingredients just by typing the ingredient name. No need to create labels for all your ingredients.
- Search includes the history notes, so if you want to know what you served Aunt Kate last time she came to dinner, you can search for "Aunt Kate".
Search Tips
Recipe Tamer searches for recipes that contain all of the words that you type (and variations on them).
To search for an exact phrase, put it in quotation marks. For example, if you search for
broccoli tofu
that will return all recipes that contain both broccoli and tofu.
If you search for
"broccoli tofu"
that will return only recipes that contain "broccoli tofu", whatever that is.
To exclude a word, prefix it with "-":
broccoli -tofu
that will find recipes that contain broccoli but not tofu.
Filtering
Filtering helps narrow down what recipes you see. You can use filtering in conjunction with a search, or instead of searching (just leave the Search box blank, and start filtering).
Include recipes from...
Check these boxes to include recipes from Friends and/or Household members in your search. A Friend search will automatically include Household members as well.
Last Made
Look for recipes you have or haven't made before, or that you made within a particular date range. Leave the From date empty to find all recipes you made before the To date, or leave the To date empty to find all recipes you've made since the From date. Dates are inclusive (recipes made on the From or To date are included).
Friends
If you've chosen to include recipes from Friends or Household Members, you can choose which peoples' recipes to see. You can either include a person (click on the + next to their name) or exclude them (click on the –).
The list of people shown in the Friends filter will depend on other search options and filter settings. For example, if you've searched for "broccoli" and Elena doesn't have any broccoli recipes, you won't see here name here.
Labels
Use the Labels filter to narrow down your results based on whatever criteria you've created labels for (see Using Labels).
You can either include a label (click on the + next to their name) or exclude it (click on the –).
